Trip to the States
Apologies for the long gap between posts. I have been in the States for just over 5 weeks now travelling all over the country seeing both the east and west coasts. I’m here for another week before heading back to London.
It’s been an entertaining and enlightening trip. With American culture all around us I found it almost impossible not to have many preconceptions. Most have been completely wrong, though I’ve spent much of my time in city centres and well off small towns when travelling around. Also I am aware of the ‘honeymoon’ like mentality in new places where the downsides are often overlooked when the excitement of the new is all around. Though the problems with healthcare are clear to see. The numbers of mentally ill homeless people in some big cities, that seem not to have access to adequate healthcare, can be shocking. However, the Americans can do public places bloody well. Many towns and cities have lovely squares and parkland. Boston and New York have been incredible places. San Francisco is in many parts.
I’m intrigued about being able to see what’s changed while away. Woolwich’s town centre square upgrades should be pretty much finished, and I’m keen to see what £6 million + has achieved.
