South-East London's lost river revealed again?

Back in January 2015 I wrote about how the River Wogebourne had apparently been revealed once again by Crossrail work. Most of the river is now buried below ground as it runs from its source at Shooters Hill, through Plumstead and Abbey Wood and ending at the lakes and canal systems of Thamesmead.

Some more work appears to have revealed another stretch of this waterway further east as the culvert is upgraded beside the future Crossrail corridor:

This matches Crossrail plans, which label this stretch as culvert 615:

This little river, well stream really, will shortly be covered over once again and hidden for decades to come.

I've lived in south east London most of my life growing up in Greenwich borough and working in the area for many years. The site has contributors on occasion and we cover many different topics. Living and working in the area offers an insight into what is happening locally.

  • The stream went under the railway line behind the garages in Bracondale Rd.
