New paper covering Greenwich borough launches this weekend

The inaugural issue of The Weekender launches this weekend. Southwark News are behind the venture, which follows sister papers covering Lambeth and Southwark boroughs.

Greenwich Council signed an advertising deal with the paper back in March. The design appears to be clean and modern, with the format straddling a paper and magazine.

It’s a welcome entry into the area. They’ve already been engaging with local community groups regarding issues across the borough.

The News Shopper has seen heavy cuts with staff now based many miles away in Sutton. The Evening Standard’s coverage is far from comprehensive and I can’t see new editor George Osborne suddenly giving a shit. I havn’t seen the Mercury for a long time.

A list of locations you can pick up a copy is available here. They have a Facebook page here.

I've lived in south east London most of my life growing up in Greenwich borough and working in the area for many years. The site has contributors on occasion and we cover many different topics. Living and working in the area offers an insight into what is happening locally.
