New Cross NHS walk-in centre to close
Lewisham Clinical Commissioning Group have today voted to close the Waldron NHS walk-in centre in New Cross.
It’s perhaps not the best day for the decision, given the headline news that Accident and Emergency department are facing severe strain and have “run out of beds”.
Closing walk-in centres will increase pressures on already busy A&E departments, as well as GPs who often cannot offer appointments within a week or two.
The centre is located in an area of substantial population and housing growth.
31st March is the last day of operation.
Numerous housing developments are underway nearby. Just north of the site is Anthology, which includes a 22-storey tower and 336 new homes. You may have noticed the rising tower on the train into central London.
Even closer is the former Deptford Green school, where 120 homes are planned.

Another marvellous example of joined up thinking….
Waldron centre, not Haldron
