New The Works shop and converted flats above store coming to Eltham High Street

Plans are in for The Works to open at Eltham High Street in the former Mothercare store.

In addition, separate plans see conversion of floor space above retail units at 146-154 Eltham High Street into five flats. It follows on from earlier plans in 2015 to convert space into eight flats. These extra five are in addition.

Under “permitted rights” rules introduced in 2013 conversion of office space to residential has been fast-tracked.

Mothercare occupied one retail unit until financial problems led to its closure last month.

Bookseller and stationary chain The Works are taking on the empty unit. They have managed to grow despite difficulties in booksellingby focusing on value and a child-friendly range of books. Arts and crafts are also a major part of their offering.

The planning reference of the flat conversion is 18/2092/PN2.
