Police gain more stop and search powers in Woolwich after violent attacks
Met Police have tonight instituted a Section 60 which allows greater stop and search powers across the Woolwich Riverside ward.
It is in effect until 6am tomorrow morning.
Increased powers come after a number of violent incidents in recent days:
- A man was stabbed at Kingsman Street two nights ago
- A woman was slashed twice with a blade on Powis Street yesterday lunchtime
- A woman was shot last night on Mulgrave Road
- A woman died after an arson attack near Queen Elizabeth Hospital in the early hours. It is suspected a moped was used as a getaway vehicle.
The murder means there have been six in Greenwich Borough this year – the third highest out of 32 London boroughs.
