Police gain more stop and search powers in Woolwich after violent attacks

Met Police have tonight instituted a Section 60 which allows greater stop and search powers across the Woolwich Riverside ward.

It is in effect until 6am tomorrow morning.

Increased powers come after a number of violent incidents in recent days:

  • A man was stabbed at Kingsman Street two nights ago
  • A woman was slashed twice with a blade on Powis Street yesterday lunchtime
  • A woman was shot last night on Mulgrave Road
  • A woman died after an arson attack near Queen Elizabeth Hospital in the early hours. It is suspected a moped was used as a getaway vehicle.

The murder means there have been six in Greenwich Borough this year – the third highest out of 32 London boroughs.

I've lived in south east London most of my life growing up in Greenwich borough and working in the area for many years. The site has contributors on occasion and we cover many different topics. Living and working in the area offers an insight into what is happening locally.
