New shops and flats planned at Mothercare site in Bexleyheath

A scheme for 14 flats in a new building in Bexleyheath town centre has been submitted to Bexley Council.

The site, at 11 – 15 Market Place, will see the demolition of a rear warehouse and
construction of four-storey building creating four new shop spaces, 10 two-bedroom flats and four one-beds.

Mothercare are leaving the site soon after deciding to close many branches UK wide due to financial problems. Bromley also closed.

New shops will face Arnsberg Way though passing footfall would probably be low raising questions about the sustainability of these units.

As a private renter living costs are very high and ads bring in relatively little to the site. I run it alone, and you can support me through Paypal with a one-off or monthly donation here

Finally there's the Ko-fi option

  • Mothercare is still open at the moment!! They are closing but they certainly didn’t go in June.

  • above the shop they’re offering a flat to let. I know it as I am seeking for something in the area and actually liked the listing – not yet contacted the estate agent, and I won’t do so now
