Eight fire engines and 40 firefighters from London Fire Brigade have tonight extinguished a fire that broke out in a laundry room of a Creek Road block in Deptford.

Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus rescued one man who was led to safety from the third floor via an internal staircase.

20 people left the building before the arrival of the Fire Brigade around 11pm. The fire was extinguished at 00:20.

Three men and three women were assessed at the scene by London Ambulance Service crews.
