Shop to become part of school in expansion plan

Shops in Welling could be taken over by Park View Academy school which is looking to expand on a site at Park View Road near Welling United and Erith and Belvedere’s football ground.

The shop unit they wish to use was a heating supply unit until closure in September 2018.

The school currently operate in space predominantly at first floor level and is looking to take over this adjacent ground floor unit.

The planning statement says: “The school aims to improve its existing teaching and ancillary facilities by providing larger and more dedicated teaching spaces and better spaces internally. The proposals also address the limited accessibility currently affecting the school operation.”

  • There are no disabled or ground floor teaching rooms or facilities at the school;
  • There are no suitable waiting or visiting areas for parents;
  • The kitchen and toilets can become cramped and ground level facilities would greatly benefit the operation as a whole.”

  • It is a shame to see another retail unit standing empty in Welling. If no other retailers are looking to take over the store. Then expanding the Park View Academy in to the unit would save this unit from being left to stand empty for years.

  • Hi there,

    I am Gemma Gosden, one of the directors of ASD Learning Limited, trading as ALP Parkview Academy.

    I thought it might be helpful to give you some additional information about our proposed project in Welling.

    We are an Ofsted registered setting, specialising in providing flexible, short term packages for children on Autistic Spectrum who are out of school. Our aim is to improve the available opportunities for these learners in the hope it will improve their future prospects.

    We established Parkview Academy in 2010 and currently cater for 30 learners. We are excited about the opportunity to expand into the former shop because it offers Parkview Academy the opportunity to increase the quality of our setting for our learners, parents and staff and we hope any interested parties will support us in our mission.

    Please do let us know if you have any queries and will do our best to answer them for you.
