New Cross flats to finally see new exterior after flammable cladding removed in 2017

Three blocks of flats that were clad in flammable materials in New Cross are to see new terracotta external panels applied.

Back in December I covered how Lewisham Council had been awarded £9 million from central Government to replace cladding at Hatfield Close.




The towers had aluminium composite material (ACM) on the building exterior installed in 2002 which were removed in 2017 after the Grenfell Tower tragedy.

While the cladding of course needs to come off, removal gives a blank slate for a new external appearance and I’m really not sure about terracotta tiles across the entire facade. This style was common around the 2000s, and in my view is pretty tacky and dated.

A grey frame around the exterior will also offer a dumpy and squat profile.
