Megabus launch coach service from Greenwich to Kent
Megabus have announced a new coach service from North Greenwich to various locations in Kent including Chatham and Faversham then terminating in Canterbury. 15 will operate in each direction each day.
It could well be a smart move by Stagecoach who operate the service, and were recently bared from the next Southeastern franchise and now taking the DfT to court.
The service commences on 21st July – just over a month before a new 10,000 capacity venue named Magazine opens off Millenium Way. The bus stop will be located on Millennium Way.
They can expect a range of students, day trippers, commuters and those heading to gigs at the new venue and o2. Morning trips to London are hardly quick though – with Canterbury to Greenwich timed at 2:19hrs.
Fares are also higher than the vast majority of Megabus routes starting at £7.50 and booking fee of £1. I’ve regularly used Megabus over the years and rarely pay more than a fiver to reach cities from London.
It’ll be interesting to see how it copes with traffic – and not just in peak times. Roads around the o2 now see pavement and double parking regularly on event nights with the roads a bit of a mess – and that’s before they are halved in width due to planned Silvertown Tunnel work.
