Stratford rooftop car park entertainment space to run another five years
An application to continue using the top floor of a Stratford car park as an entertainment venue has been approved by Newham Council.
The project is along the lines of Peckham Levels which converted seven floor of a car park into an area for films, food and other events. In Startford it is branded as Roof East.
Urban Space Management are behind the scheme above The Stratford Centre.
The application is for five years and states: “The basic outline proposed for the rooftop is to provide an urban park with associated café / bar facility, games areas, wet weather marquee cover and rooftop toilet facilities. In addition an outdoor rooftop cinema venue will be provided together with other flexible spaces capable of being used for activities such as yoga, promenade theatre and dance performances.”
Stratford is of course seeing a vast number of new builds currently underway. Plans to redevelop the Stratford centre are also on the drawing board.
At least 550 new homes would be constructed though the car park would remain.
