Sainsbury’s new Greenwich store takes a step closer

Sainsbury’s have gained a premises licence as preparations are made for a new store in Greenwich.

The branch will open on Banning Street at a long-empty site, that was originally due to be Simply Fresh until that plan stalled. I initially thought it was due to be under a taller block – though planning documents show it in the parade below:

A pretty old shot taken around 2015

More blocks are underway along Banning Street as part of River Gardens.

Development seen from Thames walk

The new Sainsburys will join a Co-op in the area.

This would be the third Sainsbury’s in Greenwich – with another just west in Deptford and two just to the east in Charlton.

As a private renter living costs are very high and ads bring in relatively little to the site. I run it alone, and you can support me through Paypal with a one-off or monthly donation here

Another option is via Patreon with offers monthly payments by clicking here

Finally there's the Ko-fi option

Many thanks

There's also a Facebook page for the site here

I've lived in south east London most of my life growing up in Greenwich borough and working in the area for many years. The site has contributors on occasion and we cover many different topics. Living and working in the area offers an insight into what is happening locally.

  • Excellent news for this area of Greenwich. With the local population growing as thousands of new homes have already built or under currently construction. With thousands of new homes due to constructed in the future.

We need to see an increase in local amenities and the local infrastructure including supermarkets as residents need to shop and eat of course.

  • This was excellent news however HGV deliveries at 6am most mornings so far has become a massive nuisance to those living in earshot.
