Another police operation at Woolwich Arsenal station

Police are conducting a security operation at Woolwich Arsenal station this morning.

Unlike previous operations, it appears this doesn’t include metal detecting arches to assist with weapon searches.

You may ask why Greenwich Police are broadcasting this over social media (which is how I saw it) if it alerts people to their presence?

Previous knife arch operation at Woolwich Arsenal

They state it’s part of long-standing Operation Servator which “aims to deter, detect and disrupt a range of criminal activity, including terrorism, while providing a reassuring presence for the public. Our officers are experienced and specially trained to spot the tell-tale signs that someone is planning or preparing to commit an act of crime.”

Purely speculative here, but two Section 60 stop and search order have been given over the past week for areas of the borough including Woolwich.

I've lived in south east London most of my life growing up in Greenwich borough and working in the area for many years. The site has contributors on occasion and we cover many different topics. Living and working in the area offers an insight into what is happening locally.

  • Operations like this carried out by the Police can only be a good thing if they help to make our Borough and passengers travelling on the trains safer and help to stop potential incidents from happening.
