Sidcup gym and homes plan approved at former cinema

Bexley Council’s planning committee have given the green light a new gym and flats near Sidcup station.

I first covered plans back in August last year. Click here to read details on what to expect on site.

New flats

The gym will operate 24/7 and will be located alongside 26 flats at the former site of Sidcup Odeon. The frontage was previously retained as the rear demolished. The frontage will now also be demolished.

Rear of planned site

There is no affordable housing on site. Instead Bexley accepted a payment of £250,000 for off-site provision. That’s enough for barely one home. The authority has failed to meet affordable housing targets by a substantial amount over recent years with a three per cent increase over three years.

Bexley totals

The last full year’s record shows zero affordable homes built. This is then costing Bexley Council (and in turn taxpayers) vast sums as they – like others councils – then house people in expensive emergency overnight accommodation.

As a private renter living costs are very high and ads bring in relatively little to the site. I run it alone, and you can support me through Paypal with a one-off or monthly donation here

Another option is via Patreon with offers monthly payments by clicking here

Finally there's the Ko-fi option

Many thanks

There's also a Facebook page for the site here

I've lived in south east London most of my life growing up in Greenwich borough and working in the area for many years. The site has contributors on occasion and we cover many different topics. Living and working in the area offers an insight into what is happening locally.
