Serious accident in Woolwich as cars collide
A crash on John Wilson Street has closed roads in Woolwich tonight. John Wilson Street is closed between the Woolwich Ferry and Grand Depot Drive.
This area has seen a number of accidents and local people have campaigned for action to be taken for some time.
One possible issue with increasing safety here is that this is the South Circular which is one of the few roads managed by TfL in the borough, with Greenwich managing approach roads.

It’s as yet unconfirmed exactly what caused the collision nor injuries.
This junction is becoming an accident blackspot so action needs to be taken to improve this junction,
Another problem is a lot of drivers speed along John Wilson Street so if the traffic lights change they do not have enough time to stop,
As mentioned in other post there as been an increase drivers and cyclist ignoring red lights at traffic lights and pelican crossings. We must remember the rules of the road apply to us all.
CDT, totally agree. Having been driving (both a car and a motorbike) in Woolwich for many years the number of drivers jumping the red lights in the area is appalling and frightening. There are black spots which I always consider as a hazard and time and time again I see drivers driving through the red light.
This includes the bus drivers especially after leaving Woolwich New Road (driving away from the station) and entering Plumstead Road (A206).
Also there is a high number of drivers who when leaving the Lidl turn right on no right turn junction, this is very dangerous for pedestrians who cross the road on green light and are faced with inconsiderate drivers not paying attention to the highway code… We need more traffic police looking into this and if these culprits are fit to drive.
