Art studios coming to Iceland building in Greenwich

Plans for artists studies above Iceland on Trafalgar Road in Greenwich have been approved.

Arbeit studios are behind the plan. The operate a number of sites across London. They will be sub-leasing part of the building from Iceland and look to install space for 20 artists.

One issue with the site is deliveries and potential disruption along Trafalgar Road. An initial application was refused partly for that reason. They expect up to six deliverers a day though drivers should use Colomb Street.

How long it remains as studios remains to be seen. The building has always struck me as one likely to be redeveloped with new flats above a retail unit.

I've lived in south east London most of my life growing up in Greenwich borough and working in the area for many years. The site has contributors on occasion and we cover many different topics. Living and working in the area offers an insight into what is happening locally.

  • It is always nice to help and support new artist in the Borough. As I know many local artist like to show and sell their work locally.

There were also plans to improve Charlton Village which also included bringing the Old Summer House (former public conveniences) )to the entrance of Charlton House back in to use. The summer house a listed building is currently under going restoration. .

One suggestion put forward for the use of the Summer House was for this building to be used by local artist for arts and crafts,

If the Iceland building on Trafalgar Road was to be re-developed I agree with Murky it would likely be new retail premises with flats above.,

    • I can’t see what retails would work as a long term replacement though. Rents and rates are high and in these tomes very uncertain to get footfall and trade!
