Temporary school expansion plans on Shooters Hill
Plans have been submitted to create 180 places for school pupils in Shooters Hill. However the application is dated 2017 and the Design and Access statement mentions starting in 2018, yet the application was only submitted this month. If it’s already open then did it ever have permission? Greenwich Council’s website states 2018.
Assuming it isn’t open, read on…
Leigh Academy are behind plans and would see the school accommodate the ground floor of Victoria House located beside Greenwich Free School.
According to the planning application:
“Historically Victoria House was owned by the Ministry of Defence and has served a variety of uses from a day centre for the psychiatric unit of the nearby Queen Elizabeth Military Hospital to a doctor’s surgery and a preschool. The site was purchased by ESFA in 2012 and Victoria House was used to provide temporary
accommodation for the Greenwich Free School whilst its permanent base was being built on the land adjacent to the proposed site that is now subject of this application.”
Leigh Academy have been constructing a new school at the former Blackheath Bluecoats site. I covered those plans in 2018 which can be seen here. Pupils from Victoria House will move to the new school after one year, with classes starting in September 2020.
I’ll do some more digging into this and try to find more info. If you know whether the school has been open do let me know in the comments.

I wonder if this is how they plan to make space for the new year 7 cohort in September as the new building will be delayed because of the COVID-19 closure.
