Man in 50s left critical after assault outside Eltham High Street pub

Police are looking to speak to two men after an assault left a man with bleeding on the brain.

The incident occurred on Saturday 24th October outside the White Hart pub in Eltham High Street.

Police were called at 10.18pm. They state: “Officers and London Ambulance Service attended and found two men in their 50s unconscious on a pavement outside the White Hart public house.

Both victims were taken to hospital. A 59-year-old man [Victim 1] suffered a bleed on the brain and remains in a critical condition.

A 53-year-old man [Victim 2] received treatment for a serious head injury and has since been discharged from hospital.

Officers carried out CCTV enquiries and established the pair were assaulted by three men after leaving the venue.

A 33-year-old man was arrested on Tuesday, 27 October on suspicion of grievous bodily harm. He was interviewed and released under investigation pending further enquiries.

Detective Sergeant Ian Barnard, from the Met’s South East Basic Command Unit (BCU), said:

“We have reviewed CCTV and taken witnesses statements to piece together the events of that evening in an attempt to identify those responsible.

“This was a disgraceful and unprovoked attack which has left a man fighting for his life in hospital. I would urge anyone who recognises the men in these images to contact police as soon as possible.”

Anyone who recognises the men or has information about the incident is asked to call police on 101 or tweet @MetCC quoting reference 8247/24OCT20.

  • What interests me is the fact that we know nothing of Victim No 2 nor of the guy arrested and released….so both said nothing…as I have mentioned before in order to help someone they have to help you first…the police never do that….they regard themselves as the only player…they are wrong…the general public are the important player and share information

  • Descriptions of the suspects would be good. As the general public do need to be made a where of them,

Someone out there knows who the three suspects are and need to come forward to Police. Harbouring a criminal is also a very serious offence in its self.

These three thugs went out in Eltham with the sole aim of causing trouble that night. This kind of behaviour cannot and will not be tolerated.

White Hart Pub on Eltham High Street as also known for trouble with people being assaulted outside there before.

My thoughts are with the victims and their family and friends, I hope they both go on to make a full recovery. .
