Fire in Blackwall Tunnel

A vehicle fire this morning in the northbound Blackwall Tunnel has seen the road closed.

Heavy black smoke was seen emanating from the tunnel after the blaze broke out just after 10am.

London Fire Brigade report no injuries, but the closure is expected to last for some time. The Brigade state around 100 people were evacuated from the tunnel by the police.

“The Brigade was called at 1008 and the fire was under control by 1046. Four fire engines from Poplar, Millwall, East Greenwich and Greenwich fire stations were at the scene.”

Traffic is being turned around at the mouth of the tunnel to slowly head back towards east Greenwich.

There is of course extremely heavy traffic around Greenwich and beyond through Charlton and Woolwich, plus back down the A2 towards Kidbrooke. Buses are disrupted.

Finally there's the Ko-fi option

I've lived in south east London most of my life growing up in Greenwich borough and working in the area for many years. The site has contributors on occasion and we cover many different topics. Living and working in the area offers an insight into what is happening locally.
