Crossrail trial running begins today

Trial running of services has today commenced on the future Elizabeth Line in a move that sees four trains per hour running between Abbey Wood and Paddington.

Trial running will initially be undertaken from Monday to Thursday, with frequencies gradually increased as preparations for opening ramp up.

The following stage will be Trial Operations, which involve inviting passengers onto trains to test various systems in operation.

Previous test runs have differed to trial running due to not operating to a standard timetable throughout most of the day, but generally consisting of sporadic runs. These have been seen from operating from Abbey Wood for a couple of years now.

  • The trial operations will carry people from within TfL and the operators not invited members of the public.

  • To give a true and fair assessment of how the trains are running and how the station facilities are working inpartial members of the public should be included in the trials along side TFL staff. The public passengers should also include disabled and elderly passengers and parents with children.

  • I don’t know what I can see from Abbey Wood station but as I live close to the DLR, I went out to Prince Regent station and from the footbridge saw a passing train and watched it disappear into the Connaught Tunnel. I also took a couple of snaps.
