Police officer injured after New Cross “explosion”

A police officer has been taken to hospital and a man arrested after a fire in New Cross this afternoon.

Police say they were called to Batavia Mews just east of New Cross station.

Upon entering the property, police report that an apparent “explosion” was heard.

Arrest

A man aged 40 has been arrested at the scene on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life and GBH.

The A2 was closed though now appears open, however heavy traffic is in evidence across the area with buses delayed.

The incident is not being treated as terrorism. The officer’s injuries are not life-threatening.
