Disorder reported in Woolwich alongside serious assault

Police reportedly withdrew batons in Woolwich town centre this afternoon after an assault on Powis Street involving a number of people.

Witnesses report an attack near McDonalds and a number of arrests after 4:30pm.

The incident follows police yesterday reporting “increased tensions between groups in the area”.

That lead to a Section 60 order across Woolwich Riverside, Woolwich Common and Glyndon wards until 3am today, though it appears it finished too early for problems today.

I've lived in south east London most of my life growing up in Greenwich borough and working in the area for many years. The site has contributors on occasion and we cover many different topics. Living and working in the area offers an insight into what is happening locally.

  • There was also an heavy Police presence to the green in front of Woolwich Tesco’s around 17:15 this evening.

Anti social behaviour is really getting out of hand in and around Woolwich. Greenwich Council must do more to tackle anti social behaviour in the Borough.
