Two women and two children die in Bexleyheath fire

Four people have died after a house fire broke out in Bexleyheath last night (18 November).

The blaze on Hamilton Road off Pickford Lane saw London Fire Brigade called at 8:28pm.

Six fire engines and 40 firefighters fought the blaze which was extinguished by 9:45pm.

One man left the building and was taken to hospital.

LFB state: Crews in breathing apparatus rescued two women and two children from the first floor using a nine metre ladder. Sadly they all died at the scene.

Firefighters from various south east London fire stations assisted including Bexley, Erith, Plumstead, Lee Green and Sidcup.

London Fire Brigade Commissionaire Andy Roe siad: “This is a truly terrible incident which is both sad and shocking. Our thoughts are with the family, friends and local community at this difficult time.”

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

NEW: Police have released an update stating those who died were part of the same family.

Another man suffered injuries after arriving on scene after the fire broke out.

“At this early stage, the cause of the fire is not thought to be suspicious and there have been no arrests.”

  • So very very sorry to hear of this tragic event. How very sad and upsetting. My thoughts and prayers are with the family friends neighbours and colleagues of the victims affected by this tragic fire.

    Thank you to the emergency services who attended the scene and who thought to save the victims. My thoughts are with you all too. I hope you will also receive the help and support to deal with this shocking tragic event in Bexleyheath.
