Stratford becomes most popular station in country

Lockdown in 2020 saw Stratford leap into first place on the chart for most-used stations in the UK.

While central London terminal saw a drop as people worked from home, Stratford jumped up to take the top spot.

Of course, it was still a reduction from 41.9 million to 14 million journeys.

Does this mean much now? We’ll, not really as it will inevitably fall back in the next figures.

However, it possibly won’t fall back as much given the station has been extremely busy for much longer than certain central London termini and will remain so, as passengers are spread across wide demographics.

A mix of leisure use (West Ham at the Olympic Stadium for exame), sharp housing growth and commuters ensure diversified use.

This site has covered numerous developments underway in the area.

This includes the former Olympic Park site and areas to the south. There are long-standing plans to replace the Stratford Centre.

So while that number 1 crown will be short lived, it’ll certainly not be dropping down too far.
