Greenwich TSB to close as network shrinks
TSB have announced the closure of various branches including one in Greenwich near Cutty Sark DLR station.
Seventy in total will shut and continues the program of closures that saw Eltham’s branch closed in 2021.
The Greenwich will close on 28th April 2022, and is located in an area of high footfall on the walk from Cutty Sark DLR station to Cutty Sark and the market.
A “pop-up” branch is planned. This includes help on “accessing cash from the Post Office”.
The Post Office is expected to taking on some roles for various banks, however there are plans to demolish and rebuild the Greenwich Post Office branch which could well cause issues.
A temporary Post Office may be located in the car park near Sainsbury’s and the forthcoming Aldi.
That isn’t confirmed to happen.
We need local bank branches. Not everyone has access to the internet or are able to use a computer. A lot of people do not feel safe using ATM, Including the elderly disabled and other vulnerable people. .
The post office can provided some of the services previously provided by banks. However, the problem here is so many post offices have closed and many of those remaining are small and.normally form part of a shop or news agents so would struggle with extra footfall due to limited space for queues.
We need more post office branches opened and bigger post offices back in Town Centres with longer opening hours so they are open all day on a Saturday for example so they are more easily accessible for customers.
A temporary post office located by Sainsbury;s and the new Aldi store is a good idea as the Greenwich area cannot afford to lose its post office while the existing post office is rebuilt.
First HSBC and now TSB. Management insists that we are all moving online, but have driven a lot of us there because of the severe lack of in till staff. I have been in the branches of many banks to find usually only two staffed counters, and sometimes just one, but with a lot of floor staff milling about supposedly to help. This means nothing when you can only do your business at the counter.
