Large fire in Thamesmead

A large fire has broken out in Thamesmead near the river Thames.

The blaze on Defence Close has seen the fire boat brought to the scene alongside 65 firefighters.

The extensive grass fire follows a number of others across London during the past week.

Defence Close faces extensive land that was formerly Ministry of Defence property and now managed by Peabody. The area at Tripcock Ness has been projected for as many as 20,000 homes and was the former site of abandoned plans for a cross river bridge.

The Fire Brigade advise people in the area close doors and windows.

As a private renter living costs are very high and ads bring in relatively little to the site. I run it alone, and you can support me through Paypal with a one-off or monthly donation here

Another option is via Patreon with offers monthly payments by clicking here

Finally there's the Ko-fi option

Many thanks

There's also a Facebook page for the site here

I've lived in south east London most of my life growing up in Greenwich borough and working in the area for many years. The site has contributors on occasion and we cover many different topics. Living and working in the area offers an insight into what is happening locally.

  • I hope the fire is now out and everyone who attended the scene are safe. We must all be extra careful during the hot dry weather. As we have seen the catastrophic consequences these fires can cause homes public land and wildlife..
