A large grass fire on Bostall Heath in Bexleyheath has broken out this afternoon.

London Fire Brigade state 40 firefighters are on scene alongside six fire engines.

They say around 1.5 hectares of grass and shrubland is alight and “crews from Plumstead, Erith, Bexley and surrounding fire stations are at the scene.”

There’s heavy traffic around Brampton Road as the fire brigade tackle the blaze which has burned to the road’s edge.

Buses such as the B11 are liable to held up in queues.

UPDATE: The fire now appears to be mostly extinguished.

The fire brigade have mentioned they’ve used an innovative technique with this fire. When someone rings 999, they can ask the person to video the scene to relay images back.

The technology is known as 999eye.
