Officer injured after Greenwich o2 robbery
Police have stated that an officer was punched making an arrest on Greenwich Peninsula.
The police’s statement isn’t the best in terms of clarity (I know I can talk with the endless typos) but the gist seems to be that that people approached others regarding tickets to an event at the o2.
Upon leaving the venue later on the victims were followed by those encountered earlier whereby they attempted to steal a bag.
A melee ensued and a suspect punched an officer at the o2. The wording isn’t clear whether it was police or a security, those the arrest was in part for assaulting an emergency worker.
Wider issues
On the surface this is something that can happen anywhere really, though is of note as crime in Greenwich peninsula has caused alarm to residents recently.
An armed robbery of co op occurred recently and dozens of cars have been broken into over a very short period.
Residents have expressed concerns about walking the Thames path and robberies.
In that context another robbery will add to fears issues locally – though at least two suspects has been arrested.
The MET Police has lost the plot. 5 cars 8 officers for minor issues then say they busy / no officers present and all racing at speed from 1 incident to next. The Govt needs start Force Borough Commanders to either deal with poor management and start firing now.
Crime in and around the Greenwich Peninsula has been on the increase of late with. More has got to be done to tackle crime on the Greenwich Peninsula and around the whole of the Borough of Greenwich.
In areas where there are large groups of people and tourist like at the O2 Arena it is possible that gangs are working together.
So local residents and visitors need to be extra vigilant and take extra care of their belongings. I hope the Police Officer is okay..
