Section 60 in place at Woolwich to prevent Halloween disorder

Police in Woolwich will have Section 60 powers today in an attempt to prevent disorder in the town centre.

S60 allows stop and search without prior suspicion, and the order is in force from 2pm for twelve hours.

Previous years saw issues across the town.

2021 on Plumstead Road

A fence has again been erected in General Gordon Square blocking use of the public space for at least a week.

Parry Place and Plumstead Road saw incidents last year

The same happened last year, though incidents still occurred elsewhere including on Plumstead Road and around Tesco.

I've lived in south east London most of my life growing up in Greenwich borough and working in the area for many years. The site has contributors on occasion and we cover many different topics. Living and working in the area offers an insight into what is happening locally.

  • Apparently this is the work of the current Home Secretary. She’s said to be considering General Gordon Square as a potential site for a temporary reception centre to alleviate the inhumane conditions she’s created at Manston. Hence the silence from RBG.

  • As much as I dislike Suella, this is a good idea.
Manston is a hellhole and these people deserve better.
