Glass in meat, out of date food and illegal imports discovered at Woolwich butcher

A butcher in Woolwich has been fined after glass was discovered in meat set to be sold.

Woolwich Meat & Grocery on Plumstead Road was also discovered to have bags of rice with holes, with mice suspected of causing the issue.

Compounding the problem was food past its sell-by date when Greenwich Council inspected the shop.

Other products were illegally imported and contained harmful levels of pesticides.

The butcher is based in an area set to be demolished for the vast Woolwich Exchange development in coming years.

Future of site

The business has been given four weeks to improve.

As a private renter living costs are very high and ads bring in relatively little to the site. I run it alone, and you can support me through Paypal with a one-off or monthly donation here

Another option is via Patreon with offers monthly payments by clicking here

Finally there's the Ko-fi option

Many thanks

There's also a Facebook page for the site here

I've lived in south east London most of my life growing up in Greenwich borough and working in the area for many years. The site has contributors on occasion and we cover many different topics. Living and working in the area offers an insight into what is happening locally.

  • Given by the appearance of that store, it’s no surprise. I hope the store cannot trade until it passes basic hygiene standards? It does surprise me that shops/eateries can get zero star ratings and continue to trade…
