Plumstead college demolition underway
Fencing has been erected around a college building in Plumstead as demolition moves forward.
once redevelopment is complete the site will see 294 new homes and a replacement college in a venture between London South East Colleges (LSEC) and London and Quadrant (L&Q).
The site sits between Plumstead Road and the railway line running between Plumstead and Woolwich Arsenal station. The new college will be smaller.
LSEC state the existing building has not been fully utilised for some time.
The college has gone under a couple of name sin the past including Woolwich college then latterly Greenwich College.
To fund the changes, “The modernised £24m College will be built on 0.45 acres of the existing campus, with the remainder c. 1.6 acres sold to L&Q for residential development.”
Selling part of the plot generated £14m income, with £10m from the Greater London Authority completing the £24 million cost.
In 2021 work was expected to complete in 2023. Then in 2022 constructing work was due to begin in summer of that year for completion in 2025.
