Deptford art gallery redevelopment plan submitted

An application has been made to rebuild a gallery site at 3 Creekside in Deptford.

The proposal seeks to provide commercial units at both ground and upper floors and 38 flats in two blocks, with “affordable” housing at just 14 per cent.

New block

The existing building on site is used as an art studio and built in 1922 as an office and factory for the Medina Works company.

According to the application, the oil refinery for Medina Works which produced edible oils and fats was located at Sun Wharf.

The façade would be retained with two new blocks built on site, including one behind and above the retained frontage. The site is currently used as an art gallery, studio, café, creative workspaces and social space for the local community, musicians and artists.

This is just one of many plots either underway or proposed in the area.

Overview. Excludes Bear Church rebuild nearby

This plot is located near the Birds Nest pub where redevelopment plans were submitted in 2022.

Proposed development

It’s also beside a new housing development at the junction of Creekside and Deptford Church Street.

Almost complete

Nearby are 209 homes underway at the former Tidemill school which I covered yesterday.

Parts almost complete

One of the biggest developments in the area is not too far away at Sun Wharf on the former Jones site.
