Woolwich ferry: TfL and Unite finally agree to end dispute

One of the most protracted disputes on transport within London has ended after agreement between Transport for London and Unite.

Workers on the Woolwich ferry will see pay increase with Unite highlighting some roles such as car park assistants will see a 26 per cent rise.

There will also be enhanced pay for night work.

Often closed

The ferries are expected to be very busy later this month as the Blackwall tunnel closes for a full weekend southbound for bridge installation work.

Silvertown tunnel work is also likely to see a number of Blackwall tunnel closures in coming years. It’s also expected that once the tunnel is complete, new tolls on the Blackwall tunnel will see more drivers divert to Woolwich.

TfL now control and operate the ferry

The service has barely functioned for years after TfL replaced three vessels with two reducing resilience, and then saw numerous problems with those new ferries.

Transport for London took over management in 2021.
