Irish Navy vessel visits Canary Wharf

Irish navy ship LÉ George Bernard Shaw is currently berthed in the shadow of Canary Wharf towers as it visits London.

The vessel is basking in spring sunshine on South Dock, and is one of four patrol vessel with sister ships James JoyceWilliam Butler Yeats and Samuel Beckett.

Forthcoming towers as part of Wood Wharf – a major expansion of Canary Wharf – can be seen behind the ship in this photo.

That was one reason to visit the area when I chanced upon the vessel. This excellent website lists various ships and boats visiting London.

A French warship is also visiting the capital at the moment, and is berthed beside HMS Belfast.

I've lived in south east London most of my life growing up in Greenwich borough and working in the area for many years. The site has contributors on occasion and we cover many different topics. Living and working in the area offers an insight into what is happening locally.
