Stratford development sees next phase underway
Demolition work is underway at a site in Stratford which will see 196 homes.
This is the next phase of Legacy Wharf from Bellway Homes located beside Barbers Road and Cooks Road.
If taking a DLR from Stratford to Lewisham this site can be seen on the left-hand side after departing Pudding Mill Lane station.
Pudding Mill station itself was rebuilt and enlarged with the new structures opening in 2014 but many sites nearby remain undeveloped.
The first phase of Legacy Wharf completed in 2022 and this stage gained the green light in November that year from the London Legacy Development Corporation, who still maintained control of the area instead of Newham Council.
Revenue via Section 106 will see £80,000 spent on cycle hire facilities at the DLR station, while Community Infrastructure Levy income totals £1.4 million. S106 is also going to help fund a replacement footbridge.
The site is also not too far from a temporary arena for the ABBA Voyage show which reached its first anniversary this week.
Also on Cooks Road lies the Vulcan Wharf development beside the River Lea. Plans for 457 homes there was approved in 2021.
