Stratford tower development taking shape near station
Work on what could be one of Stratford’s best tower is moving along as ground floor arches take shape.
Telford Homes are building 380 homes in two blocks above a podium beside Stratford International rail and DLR stations.
Many Stratford towers leave much to be desire, particularly at street level, but this development features one of the best looking yet seen.
Double floor arches line the street with shop units proposed within.
The towers themselves are also pretty graceful with curved corners. A cut above cheap-looking tacked-on balconies so often seen.
Telford Homes have branded the site as Rondo with a 2025 completion date.
In recent weeks I’ve visited this area a few times to capture progress for this site – and have been struck by just how enjoyable it’s been on a summer’s night.
Plenty of people have been enjoying the space and commercial units located north of Westfield-proper.
There’s good quality transport links of course. In the above photo we can just about make out a cycle hire stand. Another is due soon relatively close funded by Community Infrastructure Levy and Section 106 income.
Compare that to areas such as Greenwich Peninsula.
Startford International DLR station is also located here and convenient in avoiding the crowds through Westfield.
Initially the station was pretty quiet but it’s a case of build it and in time it pays for itself.
Imagine building it now for all the new homes being occupied – the disruption would be huge and after inflation spikes it’d cost far more than it did in 2011.
Elsewhere in Stratford work is underway on another station entrance at the main Stratford station, and details can be seen here.
