Three student towers near Canary Wharf are underway
Work is underway on three towers near Canary Wharf that will see 1,672 student rooms and 80 flats.
Tower Hamlets approved revised plans in 2021 for the site on Trafalgar Way located near Billingsgate market – which is due to move to Barking – and Blackwall DLR station.
McDonald’s formerly had a drive-through on site and a new store will be built alongside the blocks.
The tallest block will top out at 46 floors in height with an estimated completion of 2025-26.
It’s now 14 years since plans were first approved for residential usage in place of the drive-through.
Those plans for two towers were eventually dropped before the revised plan was given the green light in 2021.
Community Infrastructure Levy payments to Tower Hamlets are £18 million.
Apt designed the towers for developer Urbanest for what will be the largest purpose-built student development in Europe.
