Blackwall tunnel closing again for further Silvertown work
Transport for London have announced the third southbound weekend closure of the Blackwall tunnel in a month for Silvertown tunnel work.
Initially one closure was announced with the possibility of a second. The second was then confirmed and now another has been announced.
The road will be closed from 00:01 on Saturday 21st October until 5am on Monday 24th October.
Bus route 108 will be curtailed and split into two sections either side of the Thames.
Diverted
Previous weekend work has seen construction to divert traffic exiting the tunnel southbound in Greenwich onto a new bridge.
In future traffic entering the Silvertown tunnel will run below the bridge, as seen below.
In coming months further closures are expected with running lanes in the northbound direction set to be reduced.
The new road layout and tunnel are expected to be complete by spring/summer 2025. In recent weeks this site covered work on the northern end of the Silvertown tunnel, where a substantial roundabout and junctions are now being built.
