American restaurant chain looks to open in Lewisham town centre

A new branch of American chicken restaurant Popeyes is set to open in Lewisham.

The site is Unit 1 of Lewisham shopping centre currently home to Claire’s Accessories.

Frontage seen in planning application

Popeyes recently open in Woolwich as part of a UK-wide expansion. They opened their first UK branch in Stratford last year.

The company began like in Louisiana 50 years ago. They’ve recently secured £50 million in funding for expansion in the UK.

Lewisham shopping centre is eventually due for demolition with the site rebuilt, though that’s some years away.

Plans can be viewed here.

I've lived in south east London most of my life growing up in Greenwich borough and working in the area for many years. The site has contributors on occasion and we cover many different topics. Living and working in the area offers an insight into what is happening locally.

  • This Popeyes will be a few metres from the Chopstix that occupies the old Carphonewarehouse store. I’m not a fast food eater, but Lewisham will welcome another food on the go business.
