Proposed Greenwich development could be rejected next week
Plans for a block of flats including commercial space at street level could be rejected next week.
First covered on this site back in July 2022, the site on Woolwich Road sits opposite the former Greenwich District Hospital which now houses flats, shops, a library and leisure centre.
Greenwich councillors decided to defer an application in January 2023 after planners recommended rejection.
A site visit to the spot followed with another deferral in February as the applicant opted to make revisions.
Greenwich planners however have again recommended rejection before a meeting next week.
One change was to alter balconies from projecting over paving below and instead replace with inset lining flush with the building. Upper floors have also seen recesses added.
A decision should be made next week, notwithstanding another deferral.
Aside from the point around there not being more affordable housing, I am struggling to see why this scheme has encountered so much trouble. Even before revision it looks much more pleasant to me than what it’s replacing (the balconies were jutting out were I think a nice touch) and a much gentler scale than the buildings opposite.
I was thinking the same. An interesting building, not another overpowering monstrosity
I am not so sure having a bike lane outside your street door is ideal, and where will you be able to park?. and if Greenwich Planning are involved, then we are all doomed.
‘I am not so sure having a bike lane outside your street door is ideal, and where will you be able to park?’ The frontage is on the high road, so there would be no parking and I don’t know why you think any provision should be made given that buses pass the door.
I am not so sure having a bike lane outside you street door is ideal, and where will you be able to park?.. If Greenwich Planning are involved, … then we are all doomed.
