Greenwich set to see new Asda store
An application is in to open a branch of Asda in Greenwich.
The supermarket are looking to open an Asda Express at 123 Greenwich South Street.
The co-op had previously applied to open though little has happened since. The site was formerly a Majestic wine shop.
Mixed-use development
That was demolished – first covered on this site back in 2018 – with a new block built on site with flats above commercial space.
Initial plans for the development were blocked though a revised application was given the green light.
Plans for the new Asda can be viewed here.
Running a site alone takes time and a fair bit of money. Adverts are far from enough to cover it and my living costs as a private renter.

That building is on Greenwich South Street. I know this as I live on the street.
‘That building is on Greenwich South Street.’ As mentioned in this report. These ‘locals’ are expensive and ASDA as a whole, is not cheap. A Lidl would have been a better fit for the immediate area and sufficiently far from the Aldi not to be in competition.
To be fair I did edit it. No idea how I still put the wrong street initially as I spent a while trawling the Greenwich council planning site for its history looking up the wrong street. Then found the right streets, cursed myself and still put the wrong bloody street name up after. Silly mistake by myself.
Asda definitely seem to be ramping up in Lewisham, Deptford and Greenwich. There are also licence application posters up around the Timberyard site on Evelyn Street for them to open in the nearly finished flats there
An Asda Express Store in Greenwich will be an asset for local residents as many people like to shop locally for daily essentials.
I am praying that this new Asda Express store goes ahead after months of wondering about the proposed Co-Op store which fell through. It would be such an asset for local people.
There are quite a few small business stores, cafes, and food outlets already serving the local community. They have done so for many years. There is Tesco, Aldi and Sainsburys within walking distance. Do we really need another big corp destroying our local community and local economy?? Answer below please.
Peace out.
