East Greenwich Speedy Hire site sold after housing approval given

The former site of hire company Speedy Hire in east Greenwich has been sold shortly after approval for housing was given.

Acorn have purchased the site on behalf of an unnamed buyer.

Approved design at top. Former design at bottom

The site on Woolwich Road gained approval for 53 flats back in 2022. The hire company vacated around a year ago if memory serves.

A number of photos have been taken by myself recently.

Now vacant. Taken September 2023

Whether the new owner builds out what was approved or goes back to the drawing board remains to be seen.

The site on Woolwich Road is a bit of an eyesore as it is.

The whole area is pretty grim on foot though Greenwich Council’s Planning Department once again demonstrated they lack the first clue about it by stating:

“The site is located in a highly sustainable area with good quality pedestrian infrastructure leading to a range of everyday services and facilities within a 10-minute walk“.

Greenwich Council are responsible for all approaches to roundabout and nearby streets

Thus GLLaB – what else – is to see the bulk of Section 106 income.

Extremely poor street design evident near site

As for the site now, as soon as news emerges of the next steps it’ll be covered here.

As a private renter living costs are very high and ads bring in relatively little to the site. I run it alone, and you can support me through Paypal with a one-off or monthly donation here

Another option is via Patreon with offers monthly payments by clicking here

Finally there's the Ko-fi option

Many thanks

There's also a Facebook page for the site here

I've lived in south east London most of my life growing up in Greenwich borough and working in the area for many years. The site has contributors on occasion and we cover many different topics. Living and working in the area offers an insight into what is happening locally.
