Lewisham pub to be demolished as part of shopping centre rebuild
Further details of a major project in Lewisham town centre including demolishing the shopping centre shows that buildings beyond the shopping centre could be demolished.
An overview showing existing units and a future planned layout shows that not only will the shopping centre be demolished but a pub and shops.
The above images appears to show buildings south of Primark being replaced including the Wetherspoons pub alongside other shops on the High Street.
The Watch House is located down near Lewisham library.
It also shows alterations to areas just north which appears to be around where H&M is located.
H&M doesn’t have much merit architecturally. An art deco former Woolworth’s will be retained.
Wetherspoons of course may well move to a new unit in town when the site pulled down. This end of town is one of better areas of public space as things stand.
It does appears the Primark building will remain.
Overall the project will see 1,700-homes plus additional units that could be student accommodation and/or co-living.
Landsec’s 2023 financial report – released last week – reveals a planned start on site in 2026.
It would be a shame to lose a pub as not many left around. I hope they pedestrianise the High Street and encourage more street life with eateries and social spaces utilising the outdoor areas in addition to the elevated green space they are proposing.
More trees on the street would also be nice.
“the former Woolwich’s nearby”??
