New Greenwich Council homes on Barnfield estate set to be decided
Plans for 24 new homes on Barnfield estate are set to be decided at a meeting next week.
The site’s Barnfield hub is moving to nearby site with work on that set to begin soon.
Also on site was a public toilet which closed in 2021 due to anti-social behaviour and leaks. A replacement toilet is set to be located opposite the new block on Herbert Road.
Plans were previously consulted upon in 2021. The homes form part of Greenwich Council’s program of council house buildings known as Greenwich Builds.
A total of 1,750 council homes are being built at various projects borough-wide. The borough has seen those designated as homeless households increase substantially in recent years and is now at 1,880.
That’s a 13 per cent increase on the previous year with millions are being spent on expensive emergency housing.
