Housing proposal would see 152 homes at Rotherhithe gasholder site

Plans for 152 homes on the site of the last Rotherhithe gasholder are expected to be submitted shortly.

Notting Hill Genesis are behind the proposal with blocks topping out at six floors in height.

Last year an EIA was submitted for the site with consultation at the end of 2023 showing latest plans.

The gasholder plot sits a very short stroll from Rotherhithe station on the London Overground, and not too far from major developments including a new tower near Canada Water station.

Tower rising

Surrey Quays shopping centre will also eventually be demolished for major redevelopment.

Gasholders

Only one of the gasholders at Rotherhithe is still standing and like many others is set to be brought down if plans approved.

Greenwich gasholder before demolition

In recent years Greenwich lost its gasholder and TfL recently submitted a proposal for homes beside.

December 2023 saw an application submitted for 400 homes on the Belvedere gasholder site.

Around 700 homes are also proposed on a gasholder off the Old Kent Road.
