Plumstead station upgrade nearing completion
Work to improve accessibility at Plumstead station is nearing completion with the addition of lifts on both platforms.
The project from Network Rail is funded from funds under the Access for All program.
Public space outside the station is set to change with thousands of homes underway nearby.
The biggest site is named Lombard Square and now comprises more than 1,900 homes after a revised plan saw total numbers increased.
A short distance away beside the Broadwater canal is a site set to include 333 homes. The tallest block can be seen poking out on the skyline across a wide area.
Lastly is the rebuild of the London South east Colleges site to the west. This is seeing a rebuilt further education campus alongside 294 homes.
Consultation was carried out last autumn on improvements to the layout of streets and public space around the station.
What changes will be undertaken should be revealed relatively soon.
Super impressed by your consistency, high quality of content and breadth of coverage. This is a really fantastic blog, one of the best (certainly the best I know of) highlighting local news anywhere. Much appreciated especially because I live far away now – thank you so much for making me feel like I still know what’s happening at ‘home’!
Perhaps Southeastern should make St. John’s railway station step-free accessible with a new lift or ramp. Or is Lewisham the nearest station that has step-free.
