New Woolwich leisure centre continues to take shape
Work on a replacement for the Waterfront leisure centre in Woolwich has seen the structure continue to expand.
In recent weeks this site has shown progressing work though mostly via evening photos, though a couple of trips in daylights show the changing shape of the structure.
The leisure centre is just part of a wider development including almost 500 new homes. In recent days I’ve looked at the closure of the Bull Tavern pub in advance of works commencing.
It’s reported the pub’s operators were given just days to vacate.
What’s odd is that no other plans for housing which would be expected have materialised, including the submission of demolition notices.
When the leisure centre completes it will offer three pools, a gym, sports courts and halls alongside a cafe.
Completion is expected in 2025 upon which the Waterfront will close and be demolished. Future plans on that site remain to be revealed.
Looking forward to seeing the new Leisure Centre completed and open to the public. It is located in a prime location in Woolwich opposite General Gordon Square and close to buses and Woolwich Arsenal Station and DLR.
