Building begins on new Plumstead college

A new college building in Plumstead is now underway as part of a major mixed-use project.

Construction on the first of an eventual 300 homes has been ongoing for some time, with that block now some way up.

However a forthcoming new educational facility has only just seen the piling rigs move in.

For now college buildings at the rear of the site beside the railway line between Plumstead and Woolwich Arsenal remain but will demolished for housing.

Replacement college

A target opening of September 2025 has been mentioned by London South East Colleges which seems tad ambitious.

That was in 2021 though so it wouldn’t be a huge surprise if timescales have slipped.

Rear of site beside railway will be residential

The sooner the college building is ready the sooner future housing blocks will begin. The housing component of this development will be managed by L&Q.

It’s one of three large development sites near Plumstead station. The others are over 1,900 homes at “West Thamesmead Gateway” otherwise known as Lombard Square.

The other major development in the vicinity is 333 homes at a former care home in Thamesmead near the one-way system surrounding Plumstead bus garage. The tallest block is now popping out above the bus garage when viewed from the station area.

The developer keeps trying to claim it’s in Woolwich. It isn’t.

As a private renter living costs are very high and ads bring in relatively little to the site. I run it alone, and you can support me through Paypal with a one-off or monthly donation here

Another option is via Patreon with offers monthly payments by clicking here

Finally there's the Ko-fi option

Many thanks
