Housing near DLR station, Custom House Elizabeth line station and cable car replaces car park
Work to construct a number of residential blocks in east London is nearing the end as another plot completes at Royal Docks West.
The site is close to Royal Victoria Docklands Light Railway station as well as Custom House Elizabeth line station plus the cable car, and the last phase has seen a car park demolished for housing bringing the site to 854 homes in total
One block has recently completed as seen above closest to where the image was taken.
Mount Anvil are behind the development.
Elizabeth line
A car park on site was previously used for visitors to the Excel but with such excellent transport links now in place and a chronic need for housing, change of use has seen the multi-storey demolished.
The below image shows the last block as seen from Royal Victoria station.
Since taken in March the wraps have come off one block.
The area has changed a substantial amount in recent years, and this image taken on the very first day of the Elizabeth line shows the old car park to the right.
That very line was a catalyst for removing car parking.
There’s still many pylons in the area that if buried could facilitate greater development in this area as stated which doesn’t suffer for decent public transport.
Excel expansion
Construction on this side of the Excel are not the only changes around as the eastern side of the exhibition centre is undergoing expansion close to Prince Regent DLR station.
The structure will have two floors of exhibition space.
An additional 25,000 square metres of space is being added with completion expected in October 2024.
Almost 1,000 new homes to the west and a major expansion to the east all add up to increased passengers on the Elizabeth line, DLR and maybe even the good old cable car.
What about a new DLR station at Thames Wharf that is to be built near or close to Silvertown Tunnel.
